Shipping from the Swiss Knife Shop in May 2011 is the Ueli Steck Special Edition Titanium knife created by Ueli Steck and Wenger. Steck and Wenger partnered in the creation of this unusual titanium knife that Ueli uses to make final adjustments to his equipment. This unique knife was created for the extremes but is equally useful for everyday activities like camping, biking, or hiking.

The stainless steel blade on the Ueli Steck Knife is 50% thicker than standard blades and is equipped with 16 functions.The Ueli Steck Special Edition Titanium Knife by Wenger comes boxed with a lightweight pouch, two screwdriver bits, and the "North Face Trilogy" DVD featuring Ueli Steck's three North Face speed records - the Grande Jorasses, the Eiger, and the Matterhorn.

These innovative USB flash drives by Victorinox, makers of the Original Swiss Army Knife, have very fast read and write speeds, top-of-the-line security, and weigh in at merely 1/4 ounce.

Swiss Knife Shop also had the Victorinox Presentation Master and Victorinox Secure Flash in stock and ready to ship. Both the Presentation Master and Secure Flash feature fingerprint security and come in both the full version (with standard Swiss Army knife implements) and the flight version, which excludes implements prohibited from airline travel.

Victorinox Slim, Slim Duo, and Slim Flight debuts

What might Victorinox be doing at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas in 2011? Building upon its successful SwissFlash which it introduced several years ago, Victorinox announced Victorinox Slim, Victorinox Slim Duo, and Victorinox Slim Flight.

These products are high performance portable data storage devices that not only provide up to 64 GB (2x64 GB for Slim Duo) of detachable storage for important files, images, and presentations, but also secure data encryption technology that can only be accessed through a personal password.

On the more practical side, the Victorinox slim and Slim Duo also include all the standard pocket knife functions you might expect in a pocket multitool, such as blade, nail file, scissors, and key ring.

Another model, the Victorinox Slim Flight has all of the same capacity storage options as the Victorinox Slim, but is blade-less, making it TSA friendly at airports. The Flight model is even smaller and lighter than the standard Slim and Slim Duo.

The Slim, Slim Duo, and Slim Flight will be available in the April/May 2011 timeframe. The Swiss Knife Shop will carry all models as soon as they become available.

Felco Swiss Garden Pruners as an Artist's Tools

Felco Pruners as an Artist's Tools

On a recent trip to New York, we were able to witness Felco Pruners being used in the creation of a large masterpiece.

Throughout the month of August, artist Patrick Dougherty and a team of volunteers has been hard at work building an on-site installation to celebrate the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's centennial. The woven-wood structure by this world-famous artist is large enough to walk through, and is unlike anything I have seen before. Dougherty has created woven-wood sculptures around the world - with shapes varying from castles to abstract forms. The Brooklyn sculpture is created from materials such as a nonnative invasive willow from a nearby park.

The team of Dougherty and his volunteers was armed with at least one pair of Felco Pruners per person as they worked.

(Though it is a little hard to see in the photo above, this volunteer is putting some finishing touches on the piece with her Felcos).

This amazing sculpture is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Zwilling J.A. Heckels has been forging quality kitchen cutlery in Solingen, Germany since 1731. Each Henckels TWIN piece is forged from one piece of high-carbon no-stain steel, and ice hardened for improved blade strength and resistance to corrosion and pitting. Stylin' with the new Leatherman Style

The Leatherman Style (pictured above) and Style CS (pictured below) are scaled down more pocket-friendly versions of Leatherman's popular Skeletool.

Dubbed by Leatherman "Keychain Tools", the Style model combines popular everyday tools, like a blade, scissors, flat and phillips screwdriver, and nail file into a tool that fits neatly into a pocket or carrying bag or becomes part of your key ring.

The Style CS is a variation of the Style with the addition of a carabiner/bottle opener (making the tool a little larger and heavier than the Style).

At Swiss Knife Shop, the Leatherman Style is $17.95 in a choice of four colors, and the Style CS is $23.95. We expect these to be shipping in late May 2010.
